Nimbus release 2 new Benjamin discs
Nimbus Records have released two new discs of orchestral, chamber and instrumental music by George Benjamin. The chamber disc includes the premiere recordings of Shadowlines for piano (Pierre-Laurent Aimard) and the Three Studies for Piano (played by the composer). The latter comprise Fantasy on Iambic Rhythm, Meditation on Haydn’s Name and Relativity Rag. Also included is a stunning new rendition of the virtuosic Viola, Viola, by Tabea Zimmermann and Antoine Tamestit. The orchestral disc (NI 5732) includes a premiere recording of the dazzling Palimpsests, with the Ensemble Modern Orchestra conducted by the composer, as well as At First Light and Sudden Time, and Olicantus, conducted by Oliver Knussen.
