New Christmas repertoire for 2010

Barely into Spring and already many choirs and orchestras are looking ahead to their Christmas 2010 events.  We're delighted to be able to offer exciting new repertoire for your consideration.

A Garland of Carols is a delightful new cycle for upper voices and harp by Anthony Bolton.  Written as a homage to Britten it would make a perfect companion piece to A Ceremony of Carols.  It has been recorded on Guild Records by Oxford Voices and Mark Shepherd, with Sioned Williams (harp). For info, audio, and a video trailer, click here.  The vocal score will be released this summer.  Contact us for performance enquiries.

Another treat for upper voices and harp is Howard Goodall's Winter Lullabies, again perfect for coupling with the Britten Ceremony of Carols. It's also been recorded.  Goodall's Christmas arrangements "Enchanted Carols" are also now available.

The Manchester Carols is a new sequence of carols with narration by the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and composer Sasha Manning Johnson.  It climbed high in the charts last year following its release on Naxos.  It was also broadcast complete on BBC Radio 4 and featured on BBC 1 TV's "Songs of Praise". In addition to the SATB/orchestra version, we now have available a version for upper voices with piano and a few solo instruments. For more info about the piece contact us.

Nigel Hess’s bustling 7-minute A Christmas Overture is an exciting new addition to the Christmas repertoire and a must for opening any seasonal orchestral concert.  It was commissioned by John Rutter and features on his latest festive disc, “A Christmas Festival”, released in 2008 on the Collegium label, his first Christmas disc for 20 years.  The Overture featured in the 2008 programmes of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of London Sinfonia and in 2009 received its German and US premieres.
